We put a bunch of stuff on the table when we thought we were going to have a flood. Then we couldn't clean it up afterward because this hen started laying eggs. She laid 18 eggs. The first 14 were in 2 batches of 7. I have no idea how she thought she was going to lay on both piles.

The first pile was under the tower on the right. The second pile was next to the tower on the left. Then she laid four more after I gave the first 14 away. And then she also started sitting on them. My mom thought she was a black glove or something and tried to pick her up. Both of them about went into cardiac arrest.

I was hoping that the 21 days would end before mom's birthday potluck on the 7th. January 2nd, we see some little bits of egg shells. This looks interesting. I thought the shells would break in one day. We'll see what happens by tonight.

So there are chicks and eggshells. My mom was telling me that one had died. I guess it fell off the back of the table.

Another chick was in the bathroom shower with my mom and was crying pitifully. So mom picked it up and took it back to the mother hen.

So I went upstairs to ask Ben about the dead chick and found him nursing it back to health. It hadn't died, and when Ben tried to introduce it to it's momma. Momma didn't do anything.

Little chickie started chirping and chirping so Ben decided to try and reintroduce the chick to momma hen again.

With a lot of effort the little chick made it across the slick rackeball paddle and towards momma.

Momma fluffed herself up so the chick could get underneath.

The momma made an interesting sound while all this was going on. It's kind of like a hen growl since we were standing there. I think she's used to us standing there, but wants us to know who is boss.

So little chickie has been accepted by momma. So now I know there are three under there, and there were four eggs total.

The hen and chicks made it off the table. Must have been a hard trip. She is just sitting on the lanai cement floor resting with her chicks underneath her. Later I looked all around the lanai and yard for her, but she has hidden herself. Now we can clean the lanai. :-) PS. One egg didn't hatch.

Checked a little later and one chick had fallen into a cement block and couldn't get out. I got it out, and then went and got Ben.

Ben picked it up and we were trying to figure out if it was the one he helped or one of the other two.

I thought maybe the one he had helped had a hurt leg from the fall. These legs look fine. He put the chick over by the noisy roosters since we couldn't see a hen.
