Enjoy!

We had to draw 7 lines on a 10" square of paper. Then the class voted on which one to use. You can see the winning lines. Then we had to draw our theme on the paper. Mine is flowers. We had to have three focal points. I really liked what I drew, but it was a little light from afar.

When I got it back I changed it to be darker, and to be seen a little better from afar.

We had to use our theme (flowers in my case) in some kind of grid that had no focal point. Then we had to swap with someone else and put our theme on their work. So the girl that took mine has a theme of eyes.

And I put flowers on her eye theme, and we had to have three different sizes of focal points.

We had to do a project using our theme (flowers) in text form. I wanted to do three different levels of flowers, so I made one big sunflower, the letters on the petals going around, and a 3-D "O". Each letter has a flower that starts with that letter. Fuchsia, Lilia, (okay O was sort of not an Ox-eye Daisy), Willow, Eschscholzia californica (California Poppy), Raspberry, and Sweet Peas. We each heard peer reviews on how to improve it.

The class suggested I add a background color to help the flower pop out. After class I put the blue in to help the flower "pop out."

Brother Truscott had five different cartoons that we had to change some way to have a change in proportion. I chose Bart Simpson.

I wanted to do an "age progression" on him to age 65 or so. I wanted to exagerate his stomach and have him watching "The Biggest Loser" and thinking that he should lose weight.

Then I transferred it to the foam board and colored it. I made SO MANY trial drawings before I got one I liked. :-)

We were giving a slip of paper with a feeling on it and we had to draw a representation of that word without drawing any objects. Mine was sadness.

We used some object and made it repeat, and also used lines. I like how my parrot tulips turned out.

I didn't notice this wasn't lined up when I took the picture. After I glue it, it will be easier to hold, but I don't have any glue right now.

We did a black and white version of a photograph. I chose a picture of my father. Here we practiced line drawing.

I really, really liked how this turned out, but I think the class had no idea what it was. :-) It is a banana flower and we were doing part of the picture near and part far. Hence the bloom is larger than the leaves. You can also see the baby bananas that are just starting.

We watched a movie about Andy Goldsworthy and then we went out and made our own art with nature. Sorry we missed taking pictures of some of the class artwork.

We used our theme to make a picture using four or more changes in value (light & dark). It needed to be either in the cool grays or the warm grays. This is the warm grays. I can't remember the %'s of the pens, but I think they were black, 70%, 50%?, 30%, 10%.

Next we did the picture with analogous colors. I chose blues and greens. When I got it back I added more blues, greens, and a little purple.

Our 5th project is to make a painting of our picture using complimentary colors. First we needed to shrink the picture from 10X10 to 6X6. That was a challenge for me. Then I put pencil on the back and transferred it to the canvas.

I printed two copies of the 6X6 picture and colored one quickly to see what I wanted to do with the paint on the canvas.

Here is the painted canvas. It is 6x6 inches. I think it was the first time I'd painted on canvas. That was interesting. For my complimentary colors I choose red and green.

Each person is using their "subject" and doing it in complimentary colors. If you look at the pictures carefully you can see what they did in analogous color schemes.
