Don and Lois Colton Family Newsletter Christmas 1998 Edition In April, we tried to catch up on some things and then Grandma and Grandpa Colton came to visit to watch the children while Don and Lois went on vacation to Alaska to visit Lois’s brother Dave and his family. After the Alaskan vacation Lois and Don were able to visit with Grandma Jean and Grandpa Larry. Jean got involved with costuming for Kahuku High’s “West Side Story.” Ben played a detective. Larry went on 55 sessions at the temple during that month. At the end of May, they returned home to prepare for a mission to South Africa. In May Oreo the kitten came to live with us. She is all black and kind of feisty. We found her stuck in a bush and very sad. We tried to find the owners, and did find them the next day. They were more than willing to let us adopt her. During July we had “Ward Campout.” It is a week-long camping experience at the beach. The whole ward sets up shelters, tents, chairs, generators, lights, TV’s, cooking equipment, and even a kitchen sink down at the beach. We had never seen anything like it before. It was wonderful. Each night there were activities in which the families could participate. Don slept at home half the time and the beach half the time since he was still teaching classes. Lois watched Isaac and read the first eight volumes of “The Work and the Glory” series by Gerald Lund. The young men and women of our ward spent several hours constructing
and erecting a tower out in the ocean. Even then, the legs needed to be
adjusted so the tower would stand up straight. (The bishop ended up under
water sawing off the legs.) They used it as a tarzan swing. It soon collapsed.
With August’s arrival, all five of us went back to school. Lois went
to finish her degree and Don to teach. As the fall progressed, Daniel got
involved in Kahuku’s performance of “Romeo and Juliet.”
We look forward to Christmas time. We are having the Sister Missionaries
over for dinner. It is always special to be with friends and loved
ones and share the spirit of Christmas. We pray that you will enjoy the
true meaning of Christmas as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. He
is our Lord and Savior. He would want us to love each other all year long.
This is the spirit of charity or aloha.
